I am thinking of moving to Arizona, (I don't know where yet?) If anyone could tell me about the working conditions how many patients per RN, wages, etc. Any info would be great. Also, I would like to buy a home and raise a family soon, where are some good areas where I am not completely isolated but not too expensive? We like to go out to good restaurants every once in awhile. Thanks.

Hey what's up! I am graduating soon too, and thinking of moving to tucson.
Maybe we can be neighbors? heheh coz i'm scared of moving alone and by myself
Here's a website about tucson: http://www.visittucson.org/
It's kinda big city but still NOT as big and busy as LA, NYC.

It is totally up to what hospital you are working at for pt ratios. What area of nursing do you work in? I can only tell you it would be rare to be assigned more than 2 patients in the ICU. The med/surg ratios suck everywhere in Phx that I know of. The tele ratios around Phx are 4:1 up to 6:1 and more. You can check salary.com for wages.
Real estate around Phx is high in all areas. Sorry, no good news there.

Why not take a travel assignment first? To either Phx or Tucson...

There's a few 4:1 med/surg ratios in AZ. I recall there's at least one in Tucson (UMC I think) and a couple in Phx. There tends to be fewer PCAs with the 4:1's.

I have to disagree about housing costs-- compared with many other areas of the country the housing costs here are quite reasonable. They have gone up in recent years but still better than CA or NY or places like that.
LOL. Does anybody watch those shows on HGTV were they choose a house out of 3 choices? I'm always amazed what 200K will buy you in other parts of the world (like a backyard).
Here is Az, I'm lucky if I can find a house for under 300k. Although now with the market being soft, it's more feasible. But just last summer, no dice...
Anything is better than Cali (pricewise for homes, that is). I'm sure NY is expensive too. But to say that it's reasonable to live here is a little funny.
I mean, are we forgetting that we are a blazing hot desert in the middle of nowhere? What I'm paying for a little square of this earth (with out a blade of grass) is unreasonable...

I am a recent RN passed Board (2006) in FL but would want to move to Arizona. I have overstayed my visa by over 10 years. What chance do I have of getting sponsorship? I don't mind e-mail at [email protected]
