I heard froma friendd who is just about to graguate from the same program I'm in that I can work as a CNA even though I have not passed a state test just from being in the LPN program. Has any one else heard this? Is there any credence to what she said? I am having a heck of a time finding a Job, I am currently in the work study program but they keep cutting our pay and hours so I'm in desperate need of a new job. Please help.

It depends on your school and the state that you live in, but I believe that lots of LPN programs start by teaching CNA fundamentals with your nursing fundamentals. I know that in my school (I'm in Pa) I can pay to take my CNA test after my 1st semester is over in Dec. and then I'll have my license when I pass.
I go to school with MANY people who work as CNA's after school or on weekends or as PRN. I'm in the minority that isn't doing that.
First I wnt to thank you for you comment. I called my school and talked to them and was told that I could take my test for STNA! Yippe! SO I will be going up there to day when I get off work to get the paperwork and taking the test ASAP! I am so excited! I even started applying for jobs that are offering traing or open to nontested personel.

You will have to pay for your state test. The draw back is that when you go to a LTC facility you will not have any experience behind you. I seen a student do the same thing and the other nurse assist fed her to the wolves. She actually thought she would be working next to the nurse handing her things as she needed them!!! Good Luck!!

A lot of places will hire you, even hospitals, after the first semester of NS as a PCA,PCT CNA aka an NA , which is after they have taught you Fundamentals ( vitals, bedmaking, bedbath, transfers, positioning) stuff like that) Check around you'll see it listed in the ads for some of the jobs posted... like on jobbing or careerbuilder.
