I worked there for a year and it was the worst employment experience I have ever had. Horrible management, weirdly cult-like culture, hyper-regulated (their Magnet and Joint Commission statuses take priority over everything - I mean EVERYTHING). Extremely political, anti-union, creepy place. The pay and benefits were great but I have never been worked to the bone like that in my life. I had constant UTIs because of chronic dehydration due to being so understaffed I could never drink water or pee. I ended up on blood pressure and depression meds. My unit was insane. Every time I brought up concerns or threatened to quit, they'd give me another raise to shut me up. My feet, back, hands and bladder were shot. You get written up for being over 7 mins late or working ONE second of overtime.
After I finally quit I took 3 months off to recover.
Tread carefully. The prestige, high profile name and glam location hide some very serious systematic problems. Some people end up working there for 30 years and are perfectly happy - yes, you will meet those people. Good for them. Yes, you will see celebrities. Good for them. All that glitters is not gold!
The recruiter called me for nights position, told her that Im interested in days position. I guess most open position is for nights, even people who are already working at the hospital are waiting for opening for days. Did you interview for days or nights? Hope you get good news!
I am hoping other nurses will put in their input in what to expect to Cedars, would love the opportunity to work there but want to make sure its a good working environment
I started as a new grad at cedars and I have no complaints so far! I think it really depends on the unit. The other nurses on my unit have been very helpful and supportive. During nursing school at other hospitals I encountered many rude nurses who made me feel like a burden to the floor, I have been pleasantly surprised not to encounter this yet at cedars. I work nights and maybe the personalities at night are just more laid-back though! It is definitely a fast paced place and there is definitely a lot of emphasis on joint commission and magnet status! Benefits are great. The only times I have heard of nurses being called off is for overtime shifts they signed up for.
Maybe as a new grad I just have nothing to compare it too, but I think it's been a great supportive place to start my career!
I forgot to update you. So I got offered the position but turned it down in favor of another position. But I changed my mind and am really wanting to work at Cedars so I called her back and she is re interviewing me (I don't know why we just interviewed in October) for the position again. I think I will accept it this time. I will let you know how it goes.

Just wanted to know what is like to work at Cedars-Sinai? I know it would be a great to put on my resume and I am ready for a big change, but would not want to leave my current job it is not a good place to work. How's the pay? How does the management treat their employees? How do nurses treat each other? How's the benefits? Do you get called off? Any pros and cons? Anybody that could enlighten me (and others) about working is the hospital.
