Working in Ca, living in another state

Published

Hi all,

So i've been offered a dream staff position in an ICU at UCSF but my family can't move yet. I am considering flying in for my three shifts and then flying home. Is anyone else doing this currently or previously and do you have any advice?

Thank you

use this calculator https://smartasset.com/taxes/paycheck-calculator

Say you get 100 an hour and actually manage to work 6 days in a row for 12 hour shifts(would have to be at UCSF because most Kaiser units only do 8 hours) Claiming 1.

Where is your money going?

You have to find a room to rent $1000 and that might be more.

Food will be take out which can get pricey or quick meals like tuna and P&J for 6 days. could be just $50 or $150.

Getting to work with Bart. Monthly Bart pass in SF is $94. Factor in an uber or lyft a few times if your running late and miss the Bart or Muni $30.

Flight that can $120 roundtrip from LA or $450 from Chicago or $600 from Nashville etc.

Living the life of Per diem unless someone how manage to keep your job (24 hours) in your home state. You have no 401k or 403b? Probably an expensive blue cross Health Plan . Do you have kids? Dental? Life insurance policy?

Thanks for the information. I would like input from those that are doing this.
