Working across provinces in Canada

Published

I was just wondering how things would work out if I get my BSN (RN) in BC but then want to work in Ontario.

What if I take my NCLEX in BC and want to work there? What would the process be and how long would it be?

I assume I wouldn't need to take the NCLEX again but just need to fill out some paperwork?

Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Are you intending on obtaining licensure in BC, or just writing the NCLEX in BC?

Either way, you send an applicatiin request to the College of Nurses of Ontario through their website, get the paperwork, and pay a fee to have your school transcript and BC nursing organization info sent over. They'll also request you complete a police criminal check.

Once you get everything processed, you'll have to take the Juris Prudence legal exam online (mc exam about nursing legislation in Ontario).

TLDR; it involves paperwork, money for the application, money to pay off your nursing organization/ school, and taking an online exam. The process takes upwards of 6-8 weeks. If you plan to take the NCLEX for the CNO, they'll make you pay the licensing fee twice.

I went from Quebec to Ontario last year and was licensed in January. The website covers most of the information you need to know. Feel free to PM me if you have questions though :)
