Work and Sickness

Published

I am just beginning LPN classes. I was wondering if many of you have a problem with bringing sicknesses home to your family? I am worried that when I start work, I may make my children sick (ones 4 and the other 3 months) Is this a big problem for you? I will probably be working in a nursing home. I know that all nurses/doctors can't be childless. So, what are some tips you can give me to help keep germs down? What can I do to make sure I don't pass the things I'm expossed to to my children?

Thanks for your help!

I have a 12 year old and a 11 week old. I take my shoes off in the garage. Immediately take off my uniform, and PLEASE, PLEASE wash your uniforms seperately. I also keep a extra uniform in the car for accidents, "vomit, sputum, BM" at work. Washing your hands cannot be stressed enough. Last suggestion wash your hands before you eat at work( germs are on the phone and computers, etc. Hope this helps.

My family knows the rules. Nobody touches or comes near me til I have had a nice, hot and soapy shower and change. Ihave had this rule since nursing school.

Thanks for all your advice! I will be sure to WASH MY HANDS! Do some of you use disinfecting spray or wipes? What kind works best (and are cheap!)? Again, THANKS!
