Hi,

I am a telephonic case manger, experienced in WC area, who works at home. For many yrs I wasa contactor but thinbgs changed and for the past 2 + yrs I have been working for a case management arm of an insurance company. I like the work but not the job. I work several extra hours a day several times a week just to keep my head above water but can never seem to catch up. The population i serve is particularly challenging and my work load is high and Management just wants it done . I am told I am compared to every case manger from everywhere and that my particular issues are irrelevant.

I need to continue to work at home and wonder if anyone out ther knows of any opportunities?

Specializes in Homecare, LTC, Med-Surg, Case Management.

Hi,

I am also a case manager and work for an insurance co in work comp but I am office based and am looking for something from home. You make it sound sooooo dreadful working from home. There's gotta be some positives ie, being autonomous, being available to your children, etc. I'm sorry I cannot help you unless you want to become office based.

Emmkat - I too work at home performing medical case management and you are right with certain populations it can be extremely challenging......not enough time in a day to get things done. None the less, I love my job. Due to the poor economy many companies have down-sized, laid off case managers and the ones fortunate to retain their job(s) continue to get more referrals which increases their case load. I run into various case managers from different companies when I am out on the road & all have the same issue (i.e. working over their 40 hrs and being salary, way too many clients to properly manage, etc...). Hopefully, once economy improves, things will start to look better for both of us. Take care.

Then why reply to this thread with negativity? It does not sound to me that the poster was stating it was 'dreadful' working from home. She was simply stating her caseload and the type of 'population' she was managing is time consuming....which myself included can agree. Yes, working at home has it perks, however you also need to be flexible and able to manage your time well.... since many of us who work at home are not performing 'telephonic' case management. We also are out on the road 2-3 days per week visiting our clients, attending meetings AND then we have to return to our home office to play catch-up with returning phone calls, preparing reports, faxing, typing up letters, calling specialists etc.. Yes, it can be very time consuming and this job can be 24/7 due to the high case loads and depending on the population you are case managing. But, I do enjoy my job and my clients.

Hi

Do you know of any good case management certificate programs on line that are also reasonable in price ? I was injured and now am having to look into other areas. I wanted to get my case management then work on my BSN. Thank you

I'm interviewing this week for a CM job. Getting out of the AF and this interview came up. Any questions I should ask during my interview?

Does a CM earn the same hourly rate as a floor nurse?

Usually Case management pays a lower wage then a floor nurse, since the position is in demand.

What would be an appropriate hourly rate to ask for? I'm making about $30
