WooHoo!!! I'm in...now what?

Published

I recently submitted my acceptance letter for the LVN program for the Fall of 2017, and I am now completely terrified!

I think I spent most of my time believing that I wasn't good enough to get into a program that accepted 25 people, that when I did, I now feel like I am not ready! Call it a brain fart, but my biggest struggle is medical terminology. I can't remember terms to save my life! I am at a lost.

Did anyone else go into the LVN program not knowing medical terms, and did they get refreshed? I assume, they are drilled into your head by the end of the period but in the meantime, I am scared not knowing terms and will only make it harder on me.

I have to say, I am excited for clinicals. After going over forums on here, I can hardly await it, even if it is bathing or feedings (I am not a CNA). So exciting!

I am a perfectionist and an early bird, so time is not an issue for me, but can anyone suggest what to expect going head first into a program I know nothing about? It is terrifying! I am getting anxiety and it is 2 months away still. I am grateful to have a mother who is an RN and readily available to help me out and plenty of time to study, as I will not need a job during this time. I have so many questions, but no words will come out. I just need to relieve my anxiety. If you have any tips or pointers on how to succeed, I am all eyes and ears. Help me!!!

I thought prepping myself was a good idea, by going over lessons I will experience during the program. Boy was I wrong! Anxiety hell.

Nobody expects you to go INTO school knowing everything. While review can be helpful - it wont be if you psych yourself out before you get started. School can be stressful enough without you adding to it.

Review but dont go crazy. AND use this as an opportunity to find calming techniques that work for you. Self calming & understanding how to calmly focus yourself will be an advantage to you in both school & working environments.
