Wondering about my current situation

Published

I made really good grades in maternity/postpartum rotation during nursing school. I liked my postpartum rotation because it wasnt as stressful and hectic as my other subjects. Does this mean I should have looked for a postpartum job?

Do you already have a job?

Do you already have a job?

Yes, I work on a very busy and hectic medical surgical floor.

Not necessarily. All units are different, all hospitals are different. While you may have loved PP at the hospital you had clinicals at, you might hate it at a different hospital.

You aren't in a bad place for a new grad and you can only improve your situation and gain more experience from here on out. There is nothing wrong with applying and interviewing for PP positions if that is what you really want to do; thankfully you do have a job right now, so you have a steady income.

If I were you and I really wanted to do PP, I would apply and interview, ask to shadow a nurse for a day before accepting, to see if you really like PP at that specific hospital. And if you like it, make the switch! You should work to be at where you think you need to be at, just do the research; you don't want to be a crazy job hopper!

Meanwhile, you still have a job and you are still gaining experience :) As hectic as it may be.
