Women's Health NP at VCU?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi all!

I'm trying to find out more about the MSN programs at VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University). Their website doesn't really address most of my questions...

Does anyone have any experience with the Women's Health program? Does it prepare you to be a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, or is that a separate track? What about CNM?

I would especially love to hear from any current student! Thanks so much!

I am familiar with VCU's program (they are another nursing program in Virginia). I regularly refer contacts to them for the WHNP prorgram. Their program does prepare you for WHNP certification.

Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) need to complete a midwifery program. There are two of these in Virginia (Shenandoah University and Radford University). A CMN is not a WHNP. To be certified as either, you need to graduate from an accredited program that prepared APNs for that particular role.

Good luck

Thanks so much, UVA Grad Nursing!

Do you know any details about VCU's program--like how long it is, if you can do parts online, or if you can do parts while working?

I understand that the CNM and WHNP are often two different "tracks", but some of the schools I'm looking at (like Georgetown) prepare you to sit for both certification exams. It seemed (from what I've read) that VCU might offer a similar program, but I guess not!

Thanks again!
