With all the Military Bases in Hawaii.........

don't they need nurses????

I read on here all the time how hard it is to get a nursing job down there.

They have at least 3 military units.

Don't they need nurses for those places? Let alone, nursing homes?????

can anyone living in hawaii fill me in ?

Nursing homes?

I would think you'd be discharged from the military before you'd need one of those...

Aren't people the the military relatively young and healthy? That's bad for business! =)

I think she was referring to the fact that there are probably nursing homes that would need nurses besides hospitals and military bases.

As for the military, they'd probably station military nurses in their hospitals as a first priority, before going to civilians.

I'm not from hawaii but i would think the problem would be that its such a nice place, that EVERYONE wants to be a nurse there, so while they do employ a lot of nurses, the amount of applicants is much higher. im not sure though, this is just a guess.

Just checked a couple of hospitals' websites. Over 50 RN jobs posted. You need experience and a specialty helps. New grads may have a hard time.

new grads are having a hard time ... most jobs are looking for experience and specialty nurses.

as for the military base thing - there is a lot of military presence in hawaii, specifically on o'ahu. there's a big usmc base, army, navy, air force and coast guard all on the same island. the marine corps is part of the navy, and doesn't have its own health care/medical... if you're in the marine corps, you rely on navy corpsmen to provide health care in combat as well as in garrison. the marine corps base has a small clinic but all emergencies, pre-scheduled surgeries, etc are sent to tripler - the army hospital.

i believe that the AF base also has a small clinic, but mainly uses tripler as their hospital.
