First of all let's make one thing straight an LPN is a nurse. And it stands for licensed practical nurse. I've been LPN for 5.2 years . Before I became an LPN I was actually a medical assistant for 8 years. Loved every minute of being a medical assistant but just didn't get paid much. What I decide to become a LPN I only had to take three nursing class Nursing 101 102 and 103.due to the fact that medical assistant with associate degree has the same prerequisites as RN associates degree. People always try to talk down to the fact that your a LPN due to the fact that most of your job opportunities as LPNs are only in a nursing home setting. But as a nurse that being RN are LPN that's where you going to make most of your money. Right now I make make mid 20's. So if you want better job opportunities rather than a nursing homes go straight as an RN but if your just happy with working with elderly patients do LPN.

Hello all,
I am currently in school and graduate in December with a Practical Nursing Diploma. I was researching and found Excelsior LPN-RN program, Illinois State University LPN-BSN and Winston Salem State University LPN-BSN. I live in North Carolina so it would be awesome if I went to WSSU, but I have not heard or seen anyone on the boards talk about the program. Where can I find some information on it? I have searched their website but I only found that they BSN program is offered to LPN's. Thanks a bunch. Anymore advise would be great as well!
