  1. I took my NCLEX-PN this morning (2/7/2013). My computer shut off at 85 questions (the minimum) I left there, opened my car and started crying because I felt lost the entire exam. I had about 20 select all that apply, about 30 mental health assessment questions, a few maternity/pediatrics and a couple pharmacology. I felt like I was in SVT the whole time HAHA! I got home, didn't want to check, but I did and GOT THE GOOD POP-UP!!!!!! I really hope this is accurate! I live in NC so I have to wait 2 business days before I can check my unofficial results. I am so anxious!!!! I don't know why they can't just give us our results now?!? I did the HURST review and live lecture in addition to Kaplain.
  2. Thank you both! I have taken online classes before at a local community college and did very well. I am nervous to spend a great amount of money and then find out that I did not succeed.
  3. Hello all! I have been reading posts and I have a few questions about the LPN-RN through Excelsior. I am to the point that I want to apply, but for some reason, I am holding back due to being nervous about the school. The people who I have talked to say "just contact someone throught the school" but I want to hear it from actual students. Questions 1) Do they give you the information you need to pass the tests? Besides the books, are there other things to make sure you can pass the test on the first try? 2) If you fail 3 times, is it true that they kick you out? 3) The CPNE is like clinicals? If you go to the workshop, it is worth it and you most likely will pass? 4) How long does it normally take, from start to graduate if you dedicate your time to the program. I have no kids, job hours are flexable and I believe I have enough time to dedicate to the program 5) I have taken Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2 as well as Life Span Development at my college in my state, do they accept this? Any advise, words or encouragement and wisdom is very much appreciated! Thank you so much!
  4. Hello! I am graduating in December from an LPN program here in NC. I live in Raleigh. I am not sure if you were just talking about where you were from in NC, but there are multiple places in NC you can do the LPN-RN program. Wake Tech, Durham Tech are two that are around my area. Also there is an LPN-BSN program at Winston Salem State University. I do not believe that ALL community colleges in NC have done away with the bridge program of LPN-RN because many places are requiring their LPNs to go back to school for their RN. I hope this helps! Good luck and you can do it!
  5. I believe getting my job was pure luck. I did have experience, so I think that helped a lot, but they were really needing help in the ER and I basically made myself look good to them. I kinda bragged about my work ethic and passion for nursing (especially ER) and how I love the pace. I also told them that I really desired to work in the ER when I graduate from nursing school. My advice is to sell yourself! Show how you are better than the thousands of others trying to get that position. Have a great resume and follow up after your interview with a thank you letter/email. Also make sure you practice with your interview skills, like with a friend or someone who is good at asking good sneaky questions. Lastly, be confident but not cocky. Good luck!
  6. NC here...I work as a ER tech and make $15.00 I started in 2010 and was hired with $12.00. Cost of living here is low, so its not too bad :)
  7. Awesome! I have a few RNs who are getting their BSN through WSSU and they have no complaints! Good luck with you!
  8. I used to be in your same shoes. Unlike your goals, I have always wanted to be a nurse but while waiting on actually getting into nursing school (while taking my pre-reqs) I decided to get my CNA certificate. After being a CNA in a LTCF for a week, I thought to myself "what in the world was I thinking?!?" I hated the job so much and how much I felt like I was looked down upon. I was over worked and under paid while being treated worse than a fly on the wall. After quitting during the second pay period I signed up to take a CNA 2 class, phlebotomy, EKG and starting working in the hospital. I wanted to avoid a MED/SURG floor because I knew it would be like working in a LTCF, so I started working in the ER. I have learned so much working there and don't imagine being anywhere else. I'm not saying that the ER is for everyone because it's not, but I am saying that there are CNA jobs out there that are rewarding. I graduate in December 2012 from nursing school and I plan on staying where I am now. The hospital pays A LOT better than minimum wage and hours are flexible. I work two 12 hr shifts PRN weekends and nights and get shift differential pay so it adds about 3.00 more than what I make hourly. I used to hate being a CNA (especially in a LTCF) but the job isn't that bad if you find a job that actually cares about their CNAs. I wish you luck in your future goals.
  9. Hello all, I am currently in school and graduate in December with a Practical Nursing Diploma. I was researching and found Excelsior LPN-RN program, Illinois State University LPN-BSN and Winston Salem State University LPN-BSN. I live in North Carolina so it would be awesome if I went to WSSU, but I have not heard or seen anyone on the boards talk about the program. Where can I find some information on it? I have searched their website but I only found that they BSN program is offered to LPN's. Thanks a bunch. Anymore advise would be great as well!
