I am a nurse from Florida and worked in a really busy level 3 NICU and have experience w everything but ECMO. I dealt w very high acuity babies. Just got my first traveler job in California and I just get to feed babies. No vents , drips,INO,PICCs, not even a cpap! I am bored to death. I asked the manager and she said travelers never get actual level 3 babies even if I'm in a level 3 unit. Do you guys know of any NICUs in Cali where travelers will get a level 3 assignments? I don't want to forget all my skills. I have 8 weeks left and it's dragging so bad ðŸ˜

Did you let travelers in your staff job take on the most acute babies? There is a serious trust issue no matter the qualifications. That said, shopping around will find travel assignments that are more challenging. There are many units where staff are relatively new and managers look for travelers with experience to add depth to the mix. Enjoy your current vacation!

But what you are experiencing is part of the deal of traveling...
I feel like getting lower acuity patients is the norm across the board. You will get the most mentally draining families possible. They don't know you so why give you something terribly hard.
