I have heard that dr's will be less in demand b/c of health care reform, will this make NP's more in demand? Will NP's salaries be comparable to a dr's b/c of the shortage of dr's?

Actually both Drs and NPs will be in higher demand. Nonetheless, reimbursement won't change much as it is controlled by how the gov;t sets reimbursement for medicare.

drs will not be higher demand. just because more people have insurance and there are not enough doctors to see these people, only hypothetically means doctors will be in demand. the reality is that people who are smart enough to go to medical school are not going b/c their salary is going to decrease b/c of obama's socialized medicine. therefore, the government will be pushing people through med school who should not be there, and in return the quality of the healthcare system will go down.
as far as nurses, in the short run it may help. but in the long run, the bill will not.

I believe that whatever "reform" brings that it will include more/same care for less money. In other words there will be more jobs for NPs but not more pay. I'm a little loopy so I hope that makes sense.

My thoughts are the healthcare system will be flooded, everyone doc's pa's and np's will be in hi demand but will not have an increase in pay-even perhaps a cut, esp since I think my healthcare insurance prices will be going up at least my take home will be decreased. I do see an increase in workload on my future though.....
Or maybe I could switch specialties- NP's n places where socialized medicine exists are doing minor surgies on their own- Anyone know where I can get my hands on the Time Life Home Surgery series? JK

I don't know if I can link this Medscape article about health care reform and nurses but it's a pretty good article.

I believe everyone's responsibilities and workloads and paperwork will increase. Certain tasks, formerly the MD's will soon fall to the NP who will drop some to the RN who will delegate some to the CNA or MA and some will be taught to the patient. (Remember there was a time when only MD's gave IM injections!) There will be more government oversight so none of us at the front lines of healthcare will get more money but we can all take comfort in the fact that jobs with nice pensions are being created in the nation's capitol to watch over this boon to the industry.

Reimbursement will increase due to the non-discrimination clause stating the same fee for the same service of non-physicians. So and independent NP could make more money. But if they decrease how much they reimburse then it's all down the porcelain throne.
