will a msn help me???

Hi,

I have my ADN and am in a situation where I don't really like my job. I have wanted to get into a hospital for almost 2 years and well with the economy it seems like it will never happen. I looked into finishing my BSN and then came across the Walden RN to MSN track. I am interested but don't know if the 25,000.00 will be worth it. Do any of you have your MSN and if so what kind of jobs are you doing? Also, do you think experience is more important VS. having a higher degree? I also am not sure if I should do the Leadership and management or the education route. Any info would be great. Thanks

Depending on the economy and where you live a higher degree helps. I know in some parts of the country ADN's are enjoying management and educator jobs based on their experience alone.

Around here jobs are tighter and not having a BSN will shut you out of jobs that are BSN required or preferred.

So it's a bit hard to say.

MSNs are useful in getting jobs in education and administration and definitely will give you an edge, but also experience is going to be necessary.

I would definitely recommend you going for at the least the BSN. It will come in handy as you age.

Best of luck to you in all that you do!

Agree with Tweety - more education will definitely help. Since your goal is a hospital job is a BSN going to help? Or...make much difference?

I do have an MSN in Management and Leadership and it didn't make any difference - jobs were tight and I still worked as a staff nurse - lol.

What helped me was a post-MSN CNS certificate and I now work as an APN. Even these jobs are tight now but at least I'm working at a job that is okay.
