Will a Masters Help

I originally went to school for biology and received my BS and MS in biological sciences. After working in research I then decided to pursue nursing. I chose to attend a traditional 4 year BSN program. They let me skip over the freshman year because their freshman year was just pre-reqs (non-nursing classes) like basic psych, sociology, chem, A & Ps, english, etc that I had already taken. So I started in on the sophomore year. So the time it takes you to do your nursing school program with a Master's degree will still be somewhat long. At least your pre-reqs will be out of the way, but depending on which type of nursing program you do (ADN, BSN, accelerated BSN, MSN entry, etc) you could be in school for 1-3 years taking the nursing classes. Again, I don't want to speak for every program or region. This is just in general. Also take in consideration the waiting list. Good luck and feel free to ask more questions. :)

Hey everyone. I'm just starting my journey into Nursing after being in the psychiatric field for a long time. I have a Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling. I was wondering if anyone knows if nursing programs usually take a Masters degree into account and how that works as far as the admissions process goes. I have an appointment to see an advisor, I'm:rotfl: :rotfl: just excited and want info yesterday!!!

Depending on the specific school and program, they will give you "credit" or points in the admission process to become an RN. A master's shows them you can succeed at a master's level; they sometimes look at it as an indicator of how well you will do in an accel'd BSN nursing program. However, every program is different, so you'll need to ask the admissions people for the specific school. Good luck!

Again, it depends on the school and what they will accept. There are many schools like mine that it doesn't help because you earn points for req's taken THERE thus slimming your chances to get in, or you having to re-take them. I am sure you have lots of the pre-req's out of the way, so my guess is that is does help in your case. You still have to apply like everyone else and though. Best wishes to you.
