Will Chem 101 transfer, if I wanted to one day transfer and earn my BSN?

Someone just told me her adviser told her this bit of info...

I am not sure of the website, but there is one out there that lists which courses and which colleges they will transfer to. Maybe someone else can supply the website.

It's www.transferin.net Yes Chem 101 is on that list.

Its a sad fact that some advisers (not all) give false info to students.

Well, Chem 101 will certainly transfer as 3 cr. worth of general elective. Whether it will transfer specifically as credit for a specific program's requirements, I am not sure. For example if you are going to be a Chemistry major, I doubt it would transfer specifically for a Chemistry program since it is an 'overview' type course for only 3 credits. You'd probably need the 4 cr. one for that.

For nursing, I think it would depend on the school you are transferring to as far as what it would count for. For Ball State's RN to BSN program for example, their website just says "3 Cr. of Chemistry" is needed. Other programs/schools might be more specific and you'd have to check with them.

I just think it was unfortunate that an adviser told a student that if she wants to get her BSN at Ball, Chem would not transfer. I'm going to email her and let her know the truth. Thanks Chris for your informative reply.

Well I just hope I'm understanding this transferin.net website correctly LOL. On there, it shows that Ball State's Chem 100/100L (lab) are the equivalent of Ivy Tech's Chem 101. So I think that means that if she takes Chem 101 at Ivy, then she could transfer it to Ball State as their Chem 100/100L.

However, what she needs to verify is that BS's Chem 100/100L is acceptable for any specific chem requirement of their nursing programs. BS's website for their RN to BSN program, like I said before, only states "3 cr. of Chemistry" and does not say specifically what course they will accept. So, while I think that Ivy's Chem 101 will work, I certainly think she should talk to someone at Ball State to make sure. Don't take my word for it LOL, I'm just going off of their website and the TransferIN website. If nothing else, it would count as 3 cr. of electives at least.
