Will hospitals hire an ADN RN if you work your way up from CNA?

So, I'm currently only one semester of prerequisits away from applying to the ADN program at Elgin Community College. My plan is to get a job asap in a hospital when I get my CNA certification after the first semester of ECC's ADN program. I was then planning on working my way up in the hospital so that I don't have to get a BSN before I can work as a RN.My question is this: in your experience (or people you know) can someone be promoted within the hospital they work at from a CNA to a LPN to a RN once they have the appropriate schooling and licences? Any information or experiences would be appreciated. I've heard from some people that a lot of people work their way up but I want to make sure I can get a job by working my way up and not be stuck as an LPN because I only have an ADN and not a BSN.

This is my opinion so take it for what it's worth.

If you are a CNA in a hospital that is not yet requiring a BSN, only favoring BSNs, and they know you and like you, then yes, you will most likely be able to get a job there. If they don't like you, they'll probably use the BSN thing as a reason not to hire you. If they are requiring BSNs, then you might be out of luck unless you've really proven yourself and your supervisor really wants you on his/her unit - then they may hire you with stipulations that you complete your BSN within X amount of time.

I think the bottom line is that a hospital will hire you with an ADN if they know you and are a proven good worker over a BSN they don't know from Adam.

How did this work out for you? I'm in the same situation right now... I start my RN program this upcoming Spring semester and I'm hoping after the first semester I can get a CNA job to prepare myself to maybe getting hired after graduating. The whole BSN preferred over ADN is scaring me. Did this technique work for you? Any words of wisdom? If you became a CNA, how was that experience? Was it difficult to work as a CNA while completing school?

Hi im also a semester away from starting an ADN program at harper college in palatine.

Id like to clear a few things first.

. If you have an ADN you wouldnt be hired as an LPN because youd be an RN not an LPN.

. as far as i know there is no LPNs in hospitals in Illinois anymore

. Unfortunately many hospitals in IL atleast in The suburbs wont usually hire CNAs without experience many require minimum of 1-2 years in a hospital setting theyll even mention it in their application. Ive been stuck working at a SNF for 6 months now i cant stand geriatrics!!! havent heard from a hospital and i also have ECG and phlebotomy certificates. knowing someone to recommend you in is usually how ppl get into hospitals
