Will Federal Student Loans/Grants cover my tuition at Chamberlain College?

Published

Hello...I recently applied to Chamberlain in Columbus, OH and am waiting to hear if I got in. I have already taken and passed the HESI A2 and completed my FASFA. It looks as though I am eligible for the maxium Pell Grant and my family contribution is expected to be zero.

I have asked around whether or not I will get enough of those loans/grants to cover 100% of my tuition/fees. I am getting mixed answers and would like to know your experiences. Unfortunatley, if it doesn't cover it 100% I cannot go. I am unable to drastically reduce my income AND increase my monthly debt. I appreciate any feedback. Thank you!!

I have no idea what the tuition is at Chamberlain. But I think it is a for profit college so I'm thinking probably not. If it does, it's only because they tailor their tuition to meet what people can get in loans to pay. Have you looked into any community colleges? They are much cheaper and have better graduation and NCLEX pass rates. I'm sure in the Columbus area there are many and that is where OSU is located and if I'm not mistaken have a great science program. Make sure you look around and don't make a hasty decision in where you will be spending your money. I know you don't have to pay back PELL grants but at those schools you will have to take out other loans and pay those back.

Thank you Heathermaizey....I have looked into several programs...There is an excellent Community College with a program, however there is a 2 year wait list..I am nearly 45 years old, so I don't have as much time to do this as I used to..I really appreciate your feedback.

It really depends on the amount of the tuition. Is Chamberlain kind of like Carrington? If so, there's a chance you'll have some out of pocket expenses even after everything goes through. I know when I was looking at Carrington, it would cost me 700-900 dollars after everything went through. Even with the addition of many credits I acquired from another college. I know that their tuition was generally around 30K, and I had it down to about 25K after the credits I was transferring. But the amount I was able to get stafford, and not stafford plus pell did not equal up to that. Your best bet would be to talk to their financial aid department, and see if they will break things down for you.

Good luck!

Thank you very much illusion9376. It is a pretty expensive school..Its a 3 semester/year program and its about $8000 a semester. I have had previous students say they didn't need additional loans and I have had others say they did...I wont find out until the committee meets on November 8 if I am accepted, and THEN I can talk with their financial aid department to find out my package. If patience is a virtue, I am in trouble!

do the quick math ... pell grant award should be 5645... fed student loan 10,500.. for 16,145 per year.. Chamberlin does 3 terms a year.. so the financial aid would split into 5381 per term.

fees - term 1 would b 8930.. term 2 would be 8465 and term 3 would be 8465.. = 25860 / year.

So you would need to find about 9,715 from other sources the first year.. + any incident fees (uniforms, medical supplies, travel to clinical sites, etc.. that they may not cover for you).

Best of luck.

Thanks 203bravo..THe 3 semester per term thing was kind of throwing me...thanks for the clarification.
