Widener University FNP

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

Hello,

I am looking into Widener University for their FNP program and I wanted to know if there are any nurses on here that have been through the program/currently taking classes or are accepted, that have any information on it. I don't see any posts on here relating to this particular school so I am curious. I competed their RN-BSN bridge program, so I am familiar with it somewhat. Thanks in advance!

Hi did you start the widener fnp program?

Sorry for responding months later. I did not start the program but I plan to start spring 19'.

Do they provide clinical preceptors?

Not really. They guide you but no guarantee

Oh WOW!.. I once spoke with admissions and she told me they provide clinical sites if students cannot find one on their own.

Everyone I know that has had trouble with clinical sites, have had help in getting one but they do have limited resources so they tell people to find their own first. They found my peds site which was nice and I found my family med and gyn rotations.

Oh okay, I see. Do they have a surgery rotation (like to teach you suturing)? I got accepted into their FNP program for the fall but I'm a little hesitant to go (pricey tuition & the thought of finding preceptors all on my own stresses me a lot).

Thanks for your input btw!

No, they don't teach that. It's strictly primary care. People try to get urgent care clinicals for things like that but it's extremely hard to find one.

Oh thats interesting, since their website says they also train students to work in urgent care. Thanks for your help!

It's possible I haven't gotten there yet in the program but I haven't heard of it. I would just reach out to make sure. I'm "supposed" to be starting clinicals in a few weeks, but the coronavirus has stopped almost everyone from starting.

I'll contact them soon to try and get more information, and yeah covid definitely made things more difficult. Whenever you can start, good luck on your clinicals!
