Why Oh Why are all the answers correct!

This is driving me crazy!:uhoh3: I study and study and still can only manage to get in the 80's on nursing tests. I started the ADN program in August and made A's before this. I can spit out the information but just can't seem to pick the MOST CORRECT ANSWER on the the test! It's frustrating... to say the least. I've read posts about taking nursing tests but was wondering if anyone else was going through this and if anyone has any advice!

If you are used to regurgitating answers--ie--memorizing & then answering questions, that typically won't work in nursing school. Read the question. What is a similar word or same word in answers. This will usually narrow the answers down to 2. Then, look again for what is true about the responses in relation to the question. Maybe that'll help. And--cut yourself some slack---B's are not bad. As an instructor, I found that average students and students who made B's were often the ones who were best at the bedside skill wise & really, in the long run, critical thinking wise. Hang in there!

I'm with you. I've gotten an 82 and an 84 on my tests so far. I spend an average of about 20 hours studying the material and 10 hours practicing NCLEX questions trying to get a feel of what they may possibly ask us. I have a low c average. 86-94 is a B in my program. I used to be a straight A student. Now I'm just hoping to pass. These critical thinking questions are throwing me off. I can always get it down to two possible answers and always seem to pick to wrong one. :( I'm only in the first semester, where does it go from here? I heard it just gets harder.:uhoh3: I HAVE to get through this, my family is counting on me.

I've noticed the people getting B's are great test takers. One of my classmates said she practices puzzles and iq's tests online and has been doing this since she was little. It's fun for her.

In my biased opinion, I often think nursing school test questions are poorly written and don't test knowledge, comprehension or "critical thinking" well at all.
