Why nurse at IU Health?

Published

Hello all! I am a new grad BSN, RN who is new to the state of Indiana. I am very excited to have two opportunities on the table to work as a perioperative nurse in the OR. One of my options is at IU Health. As far as benefits are concerned, very comparable. However, pay/ HR is significantly less than the other offer as is the on call pay and more hours per shift(12hrs*3days @IU v. 10hrs*4days). I was also told that I would need to pay a monthly parking fee. I have never heard of this! While money isn't everything, it is very important. I hear the accolades about this health system, but does it really live up to the hype? My question is to IU Health nurses or those familiar with IU Health: What compels you to work there? What value added information can you share with me to give me a more balanced picture of this health system? I truly thank you in advance for your comments.

IU Health pays for your parking pass. The land that IU Health is on is owned by IUPUI and they charge for parking passes. As part of your employment, IU Health pays for your "B" surface parking pass. The zones that IU Health pays are not the premium spots or garages. If you want to upgrade, then you need to pay the difference. At least this was the way it was when I had my preceptorship in nursing school 2 yrs ago.

Parking Services

Thanks so much for both the private and public posts! For more reasons than parking I have decided to go with the other hospital's offer. It just makes more sense for me and my family. Many blessings to everyoneí ½í¸Š
