The other day I was working with two RNs and we had to split the floor between three of us. Well staffing called and stated that they needed a nurse to go to another floor. Well, the extra nurse that we had was from that other floor. She stated I will go back to my floor. The other nurse, however, blurted out " I WILL NOT WORK OVER HERE WITH AN LPN BY MYSELF!!!!" We have two seperate halls. Hall 1 and Hall 2. We were on hall 1. She then yelled at me saying," YOU WILL JUST HAVE TO GO TO THE OTHER SIDE TO GET THEM TO DO YOUR PUSHES BECAUSE I WON'T DO THEM!!!!" I'm like WTH??? Why are you yelling at me?? Why don't RNs like to work with LPNs. I have just as much knowledge as a lot of the RNs on my floor. It hurts that people label us as incompetent just because of a title. Just like today I had an RN to ask me what HLD stood for and she has been a nurse for over 20 years plus she is a nursing instructor at a university!
HYPERLIPIDEMIA was my answer. Sheesh!! And you think I'm incompetent???? My sister is an RN and she told me that she was oriented by a well seasoned LPN. Not only that I am sick of people calling me a Little Play Nurse or either "you're just a cna." Where in the heck did they get THAT idea?? I went to a nursing school not cna school!!! I took Boards too!! I worked hard, going to school from 8-4:30 m-f and clinicals s-s 0600-1800. I only worked 4 hours a week. Don't tell me that I didn't work hard for what I have!!! stomping down off soapbox now.
