Why do you like Emergency Department Nursing?

Published

I start my job later this month. After an orientation and residency I will be permanentaly placed in the ED. What do you emergency services nurses like best about your jobs? (esp. compared to other forms of nursing)

I'm still a student, but I work as a scribe in the ER. But from what I've seen, the nurses have a lot of autonomy, especially in triage. They can get a whole lot of stuff started right in the waiting room. I've learnt to anticipate what the doctors want ordered so that I can waste no time in getting them started. That might serve me well if I can get a position in the ER. If I can find a good residency program, then I will be very happy. Otherwise, I will do the obligatory year of experience somewhere else.
