perhaps you need to start a really good thread. for some ideas:

24 hour visiting

making nurses wear all white

any type of mandated uniform

narcotic diversion

lazy co-workers

stupid co-workers

nurses disrespecting their elders

texting while at work

texting while driving

texting in church

stupid management

arrogant surgeons

nasty physicians

most outrageous demand ever made by a physician

most outrageous demand ever made by a co-worker

why parents should have christmas off every year

mother's day -- to work or not to work?

calling in sick for a "mental health day."

ewwwww:mad:

you already got me going. i'm hard core anti-distracted driving. hate people who text and drive. i won't even talk on the phone much less................

lets make a thread about all the ways we will punish/torture/maime those who text and drive.

Don't forget the "CNA vs Nurse" threads.

My all time favorite heated topic was the one about gum chewing. Some very passionate and funny posts on that one.

No no no, OMG.................I remember a heated argument about donuts and who was entitled to them (students vs. the staff nurses).

"If the students brought them in but put them in the kitchen then................................."

"If the student brought them in but kept them somewhere else..............................."

"If staff brought them in and they were (w/e)............................................"

"If the sign said (w/e)......................................"

The bickering was epic. Only in nursing can you find people willing to list out all the rules/etiquette of who should eat the donuts.

I'd argue that in law enforcement the proper doughnut etiquette is equally, maybe more, passionately declared. Possibly involving a poster placed next to the workers comp laws in the break room.

Yeah. There is a local gas station near me, one of those "supermart gas station" type places that sells all kinda of food 24/7. Big handout spot for the twenty and under crowd. Every night I go in there for a sub-sandwich, there are like 3-5 cops hanging out by the drink fountain. Nice guys, but the OWN that drink fountain isle................don't go there unless you have very good reason too lol. And yes, its right by the donut stand, their isle.

The threads about scrubs get me too. Mandated whites vs. excessively flashy/silly scrubs. Man, they get so heated. I mean, really, I hate the white ones, I live being able to wear a solid blue instead but............I'm not going to poke pencils through the eyes of someone who thinks we should go back to mandated white.

Re: calling in sick for a mental health day; yes, I would. This is why I have boundaries with overtime, so I don't have to call in sick.

Re: making nurses wear all white: I never wear white. I can't imagine wearing all white at work. How did some of you senior nurses stay white at work in the days it was mandatory??

Re: stupid coworkers. Some doozies from a coworker:

1) Letting a family member feed the pt cake when pt has been on doc orders for only IV fluids for a month. This pt cannot even swallow thickened fluids properly. What the hell??

2) Assuming that a 91 year old recent stroke and dementia dx pt would know to request pain meds. Said nurse did not do a pain assmt all day with this pt.

3) Arguing with me that the IV tubing did not have to be changed every 72 to 96 hours, even after I explained the basics of infection control. Saying it was fine to leave the tubing for a week or more.

Well...the real kicker...this nurse supposedly has 8 years of experience. Scary, because she can't use even basic nursing sense, or take any initiative to follow up with our pts.
