i'm about to start my lpn education in a few weeks. i have a cousin who is an rn and at a recent family gathering she said to me, "you might have a hard time finding a job after graduation. hospitals aren't hiring lpns anymore." i did some research on a couple of career websites and it appears that she's right. most of the job postings for lpns seem to be in nursing homes. i guess there's nothing wrong with that...but i had kind of pictured myself working at one of the major hospitals in the area. what's up with them not hiring lpns?
glad to meet you both pagandeva and engy!!
We have acouple of residents who are from Queens who were in Willow Brook a long time ago.....
we also have alot of clients who come up to our hunting preserve......(our personal business)...from queens and manhattan......you are about 7hrs away.....but it still nice to meet you both!!
our hospitals are still hiring LPNS..though they always threaten not to.......they are private run and pay for an LPN is 12 to start.......most CNAs who have worked for this one hospital for years make more than a new LPN......I work for the state and you can not beat the benefits.......plus this is my first job as a LPN.......only been one for a lil over a yr......was a stay at home mom for 20yrs before that......as of july i am a new gramma.......nothing like it!
I have heard this same thing from a friends mom who also brainwashed her daughter into thinking that going to LPN school I would be wasting my life. I have heard that they are hiring something an ACA which is almost the exact same thing as an LPN but hospitals don't have to pay them as much. My question is this: Is going to LPN a good plan when wanting to have some more hands on experience because I believe that the more hands on experience the better you will know your skills better and understand how to give the best care possible?
