Why Do You Want To Be A Nurse?

It seems that there are so many of us striving to become nurses.

We're all working ourselves to death trying to get good grades and get good scores on entrance exams. Some of us are doing better than others, but we're all passionate about what we want and I really love the support that everyone on allnurses gives to one another.

I am just wondering what makes YOU want to become a nurse?

For myself personally, I never wanted to be a nurse. I used to plan on becoming a mortician. I made my switch to nursing after working as a CNA for three years and then after taking a break from healthcare, I realized how much I missed it and how I felt in my heart that it was something I am meant to be a part of (call me cheesy!).

I want to be a nurse because I know it's something I'll do well at and something I'll enjoy doing (some more days than others). I have quite a few nurses in my family which means I have a great support system. I like that there are SO MANY options for nurses between different units, to different types of care, and even administration if you get a little more schooling, and you can even go as far as becoming a CRNA! Of course the most frequent answer is included for me: caring for others so they get better. Caring for others is important, but not my only reason for wanting to be a nurse.

So what is your story?

How far along are you in your journey?

What has been the hardest part for you? Easiest?

Where do you see yourself in 1, 5, 10 years?

Ever since I was a little kid, I used to play the role of a nurse.. I would grab the bandages and alcohol and played with my dad. That i was the nurse healing his foot and he was my patient (i was about uhmm 5 years old) .. i also watched a lot of reality "ER Shows" especially when we used to have Discovery Health Channel.. also when my mom used to take us to the bookstore when we were little i always headed where the anatomy books were and just flipped and looked at the pages.. and as high schooler i would watch a lot of youtube videos of autopsy .. brain surgery etc... i was amazed with everything...

i was taken to the ER earlier today and I observed all the nurses and doctors and how they were working and i was like more motivated to give my 100% .. (ps i was conscious i was having an anxiety attack/panic attack.. at first i tough i was having a stroke my face was feeling numb/tinggly and i was very confused and my speech was becoming a little slurred)

im currently taking my pre requisites with the hopes to be fully done by spring 16.. and applying to a cal state university fall 15 .. i still got a long way to go but crossing my fingers i'll become a nurse in the future..
