Why become a CRNA

Published

Why become a CRNA (other than compensation). What are the other perks a details that draw people to this profession?

Easy there buddy. I happen to be a (former) Masters prepared flight nurse/paramedic, and current SRNA. And, in a critical situation with a crashing patient in the OR, I'll take an experienced flight nurse over the vast majority of ICU nurses and CRNAs that I've been around.

Totally agree. I was referring to the peanut gallery on this particular thread and was in no way referring to flight nurses in general. Look under their profiles...you'll see where it was coming from.

Gotcha.

I get a little defensive at times.

Specializes in SRNA.

One thing that really attracted me (in addition to all the obvious stuff - autonomy, th work, pay, etc.) was the challenge of getting into and completing the program. The more impossible everyone made it out to be the more I wanted to get in. Sort of a "stick it to the man" attitude! This is what I get for playing in a punk band. Turns out getting in was the easy part ....
