Chrislynn2003,
I've read some of your posts in the Operating Room Forum. I remember that you had a rough start. How are things now? I will be graduating this May 2004 and am very interested in OR. I'm currently trying to decide between starting in OR or Med-Surg. Most of my professors stress Med-Surg, but I see that most of the students will be specializing.
Hope things have gotten better. What shift do you work?

Things are going alot better now; I am feeling much more comfortable. Thanks for asking. Also, do not listen to your professors who stress Med-Surg. The OR is a very different speciality and very interesting too. Med-surg experience will not help much in the OR. My orientation is supposed to last about 9 months-I have worked with various preceptors, some who are great and some who I'd rather not be with. Some of the surgeons can be nasty, but the majority where I work are nice and not to hard to get along with. We don't have traumas at my hospital; the specialities are ENT, ortho, general and plastics. I currently work day shift; I either start at 6:30, 7 or 7:30. I don't work weekends for now; I will be starting call in September. I say go for the OR if that's what you're interested in. Good luck!
Christine
Thanks Nekhismom for starting this thread with a poll! How thrifty.
It seems that whenever I try and post a new thread about how my new job is gonna go or whatnot, I don't get many replies. It really is mostly about the NCLEX and I don't mind that, but I need a place to vent myself!
So with that said, all those who are in their transition now, I am about to orient to my Renal/dialysis/urology floor in the next 2 weeks. Can anyone pass along ways they used to organize their reports, remember special notes, blah blah blah.
Just looking for little tid bits to add to my plan.
And by the way, WAY TO GO for those of us who passed and for those waiting to PASS!
God Bless,
JacelRN:roll

Just wanted to know how many new RN's have a job and any other details anyone would be willing to offer.
I'll go first. I was offered a job in L&D near my home, but for various reasons, I wasn't able to start.
I then applied further away from my home and I have been offered a job in a NICU. Look forward to starting in Feb.
