I work in LTC and the OT is not as easy to get as 6 to 8 months ago. The 80 hours in a two week pay period is all I can handle mentally. The place that I work at can drive you nuts if you are there too long. Therefore, I am not heart broken that they are not bugging me to do OT all the time.
I am working float pool right now, and since I have no guaranteed hours I have certainly had a much harder time getting my hours than previously. I have been getting called off alot and most weeks I work two 12 hour shifts (would like to work more). I have had to be much more flexible about where I am willing to go to get even 2 shifts a week. I thought about getting a regular fulltime job but am 6 months pregnant and I want a 3 month maternity leave and after that I start clinicals for NP school this fall so I really cant commit to fulltime right now, so I am kinda stuck and just trying to make it work with less hours right now.
I have 2 degrees (BA in English, AS in Nursing), and I have been job-hunting since 2 months before graduation. I got a part-time LTC job, which was cancelled before I started.
I'm very worried. Eight years ago, I took a job I wasn't crazy about because I needed to pay my bills. I figured something better would come along, but it never did, even after I finished my degree.

I see a lot of the economy threads popping up and people talking about how bad their hospitals are getting as far as hiring/lay offs/no OT.
Well I am just wondering, who here either has a degree or certification and CAN NOT find a job, or who here has actually been laid off? Talking just personally/individually here.
Also, who here used to be able to get OT and can not get it anymore? And who here is getting significantly less hours?
