WHNP/CM program (Georgetown?)

Published

I have about 2.5 years RN experience (1.5 years acute care, non-OB related & 1 year call center). I am looking to start my grad program in women's health. I have decided that I would like to pursue becoming a women's health NP & a midwife. I live in Arizona, where there is sadly no formal midwife program available. My only option that I have found to get this dual education online is through Georgetown University. I believe this would be a good school & a good option for me. Do any of you have experience with this school or program? Are there any other options for obtaining my educational goals, short of relocating (not an option)?

Actually, you could get it from Frontier as well (just not concurrently). And if you want to be a midwife and catch babies, then you may want to rethink the WHNP degree, which is somewhat of a redundant degree (CNMs can do everything a WHNP can do).

Where in AZ do you live? Are there midwives there with whom you would be able to do your clinical practicum?

Georgetown is unbelievably expensive too, compared to other programs. There are plenty of others that offer online CNM and WHNP programs. Frontier as klone said, Univ of Cincinnati also offers both programs as well.

Thanks for the reply!

I actually do want to do both - provide women's healthcare & obstetric care. I have spoken with a provider that has both certifications and she highly recommended it. She also recommended that I get both at once if I can, verses getting one & having to go back for the other.

I live in Phoenix, so I should have plenty of options for clinical hours :)

Yes, the expense is a huge drawback for me. I looked at University of Cincinnati & their midwifery program alone was 3 years. I can't imagine spending 3 years & only getting the one degree if I want to have both.

You can do both as a CNM.
