O.K., our school has moved away from the whole capping ceremony. If we want a cap from the school, we have to buy it from the bookstore. We have a very small class graduating in December and have collectively agreed that we would like to wear the white caps. However, we do not want to wear the traditional whites. We would like to wera nice taylored white lab coats and dark bottoms. Then we heard that it was disrespectful to wear our caps in anything other than traditional whites and that we could be handed caps but could not put them on. Why is it disrespectful? We do not even have whites. We wear white scrub tops and green scrub bottoms. We thought that we were respecting tradition by wanting to be capped. HELP?!

I guess it's an unwritten rule. Before our graduation we were told that wearing your cap with something other than scrubs was like someone in the military not wearing their hat with their uniform. It's more of a tradition and looks very nice when everyone is dressed the same.
Our uniform was a navy top with white bottoms and we all went out and got white tops. Scrubs stores around here sell bottoms and tops for as low as $7.99. The way we individualized ourselves during graduation was that we bought white scrub tops in different styles. Some had lace, some had color on color designs, some had different white materials, and a few wore dress type scrubs. The overall look was the same but the only thing we had in common was the caps. That could be an option for your class if the instructors won't let you be capped without wearing white. Or you might try looking online and seeing if you can buy scrub tops in bulk and maybe that could save some money.
