Which UAB Program is more competitive?

U.S.A. Alabama

Updated:   Published

My daughter is currently looking into several nursing programs in the state of Alabama. She is considering applying to UAB as a transfer student, or finishing a degree elsewhere and applying to the 2nd degree BSN or AMNP at UAB. Of these 3 choices, which is the easiest to get accepted to? It is my guess that she would apply with GPA around the 3.3-3.5 range. There are so many different options open to her for nursing school and she is trying to decide between several programs. Thanks in advance for the advice...

@morri082: Yes it does, thankyou! I better get on it then so i don't miss the scholarship deadline :) Does the pre-nursing advisor not get in touch with you, you have to get in touch with them? How do you know who to call? Are there interviews you have to go to in person or any travel to the school before officially being accepted? Thanks!

You can call admissions and they will connect you to the pre-nursing advisors. A meeting can then be set up to go over transcript and you will be given a packet that tells you what you need to do in order to apply to the SON. You will then choose a date to attend an orientation for SON and you will turn in the materials you are required to turn in. Then the wait starts. It all starts with a phone call to campus admissions.

I am from Houston TX. and will apply to UAB Nursing program for Fall 2013. Can you give me a little insight on the required essay? What type of things are they looking for? What were some of the things you wrote about, being that you had no experience. Any pointers? Anything would be helpful.

Thought I would reply since I was just accepted to the Spring 2012 BSN class as a 2nd Degree student (actually a 3rd degree, B.S. Management & MBA). I combed through just about every post on this board as I applied to UAB's SON and came to the conclusion that I had not shot. This is why: 1) I had not finished any of my pre-req science courses (I am currently taking them all in this fall semester). 2) I was not a native UAB student. 3) I had 0 volunteer experience (I have two business degrees, why would I need hospital work experience :uhoh3:!?)

I applied nonetheless and I was accepted. I write this just to prove that GPA is not an absolute killer for applicants. I had a 3.54 in grad school. I did feel, however, that I wrote a killer interview essay! I honestly feel that it was the main contributing factor to my acceptance! Hope some of this helps in your daughters decision.
