Which would you rather do?

Would you rather work (5) 8 hour shifts of (3) 12 hour shifts?

I'm seriously considering oncology which would be 7pm-7am with rotating weekends...

Three 12s- hands down.

I'm currently working five 8s, nocs. I have no time or energy to have a life.

i would, hands down, do (3) 12's...

and even, (2) 16's and a single shift.

less is more.

Since I'm a lover of compressed working schedules, I cannot stand 8 hour shifts at all. They're hideous to me.

I prefer either the three 12-hour shifts, or the two 16-hour shifts. Compressed scheduling enables me to have more days off per week, and time off is something that cannot be beat.

Our floor has eight hour shifts. We have two week cycles, so if arranged well, you can have long stretches off. For instance, every other week, I have a week off. But I'm only part time at twenty hours per week.

I'd rather work three twelves than five eights, though.

3 12's. Schedule it right (and if your body can handle it), you have the possibility of having 9 days off in a row without havin to use a single hour of your PTO. Of course, you'd be working yourself to do as much....but if you're young it is something to consider.

I'm considering a job right now that is three 14 hr shifts- Mon, Wed and Fri only. Even though it is over an hour's drive away, I think it would be worth it.

I'd rather work 36 hours a week than 40, so therefore 3 -12s! Can't beat it :)

Especially working nights, definitely prefer the 12s. And with my long commute, definitely prefer the 12s. I imagine if I was days and close to home though, 8s wouldn't be too bad.

im working the 8 hour shifts 5 days a wk now and i hate it.... can't wait to go back to working 12's once i graduate!

I'm going to be working 2- 12's and 2- 8's. That way I get my 40 hours/week and have 3 days off per week. Plus those short days will be a nice break. :)
