Hello, I asked both my microbiology professor and my history professor for a letter of recommendation and both said yes. I think a letter from a science professor will probably look better, and this professor is including the hours I worked and the hours I volunteered while taking their class. However, my history professor knows me as a person and I have taken more than one class with him. He knows about my background and has even met some of my family and I feel like he can really speak to who I am as a person as well as a student. I do not know which letter to include in my application and my school only accepts one. If anyone has any insight, please share! Thanks!!

It would depend on the actual letter.

Why not both? A good chunk of schools require 2-4 recommendation letters. It all depends on the school.

I would love to submit both but my school only accepts one academic and one professional recommendation. But I'll ask just to make sure, thanks!

You know for some reason this did not cross my mind! Thanks!

Yes, most schools do tend to want various recommendation letters such as what you said (professional and academic), because it shows them how you are in academia and a work environment. With some workplaces, they do not allow a person or supervisor to even give references unless it's on their own and cannot be on company letterhead. I've encountered a few schools which demand a recommendation letter be on company letterhead. What then? The majority of professors do not have a problem putting down the school you attended and using school letterhead. It's a win-win for you if you can have both of them give you the letters you need.

Good luck!

You should use both! I submitted multiple LOR because my academic reference went ghost on me for months so I decided to ask someone else. Turns out, they mailed the letter and the other reference did too. I had 4 letters total (2 professional, 2 academic). They won't really care if you have more than they ask for.

Also, they could just put them in a sealed envelop for you and you could deliver whichever one you decide one.

Thanks so much for your reply! I will definitely just give them both! I remember your user name from a previous GGC post, if you ended up going there for nursing school can you tell me how you like it? It is my top choice currently but I haven't spoken to anyone who's gone through the program about it. Thanks!!

Girl, ask me in a few weeks haha. Semester just got started so everything is really confusing right now. Just know it's a lot of busy work and it is VERY expensive. My advice for you would be to either have some money saved up by December or take out a loan. I spent $1300 on books and about $400-500 for uniforms and supplies (stethoscope, pen light etc). And I think the seat is about $100. Be ready to be broke for a while and have most of your time taken up by school work. The dress code is also confusing. It might vary day to day so just be ready for that.

Haha well good luck on your first semester!

Thankfully I've been saving for the past two years for nursing school expenses, but goodness I didn't think it'd drain me that fast!
