Which nursing schools are more competitive?

Published

Hello everyone,

I've been reading some posts recently and i know that many nursing schools are hard to get into.

But which ones are harder than other to get into?

Cal state east bay? San francisco state? or san jose state?

I'm just wondering because i will apply next year and i am really nervous about it :uhoh21:. reading all of the posts of people who had really high gpa's and aren't getting into some schools is really scaring me :icon_roll!

All the CSUs are highly competitive due to the shear volume of applicants. For Northern California (and this is just my guess) I would say Sac State is probably the hardest to get into followed by SFSU and CSUEB.

I am sure Chico, Humboldt, and Sonoma also get a lot of applicants as well but I don't really know too much about those schools b/c I didn't apply there.I know CSUEB gets like at least 800 applications a year.

I wouldn't be too scared or worried - I mean you really can't do anything about it. As long as your grades are good/have a good teas score/ and maybe get some of the supplemental criteria then you definitely have a shot @ any school. It really depends on the applicant pool year-round too - so some years will be more competitive than others. GL. I applied for fall 10 to all the schools you are asking about besides for SJSU.

I dont know about Cal state schools but I go to Arizona State University and my class avg. GPA to get into the nursing program was a 3.9 no one got in with less than a 3.8

Its sad, because I know so many people who would make awesome nurses, they are some of the most caring individuals i've ever met but they're out placed by people with book smarts. I wish more schools would include an interview in the application process, because GPA does not equal a good nurse :/
