Which NP specialty is most in demand?

Specialties NP

I'm a non-traditional student that is about to change careers completely and start nursing school - my goal is to become a NP and eventually achieve a Ph.D or DNP. Anyhow, what do you all perceive as the most in-demand nurse practitioner specialty? I, of course, am at least 3 years away from having to make any decisions about which NP path to pursue, but I would love to get some outside opinions.

Specializes in Psychiatric Nursing.

i reread your post above about the empowerment trend and it is interesting to consider. CAM has been influencing mainstream for a while. Herbert Benson with "the relaxation response" was basically teaching meditation. Jon Kabbat Zinn mindfulness is also meditation. There is science behind how these processes work. Some CAM might not stand up to scientific rigor; some mainstream practices might not either.

Dr. Joseph Mercola , Dr. Mehmet Ozi ,Dr. Andrew Weil,

Jon Kabat-Zinn and many other PHD/MD's- each have their side and their / newspapers / magazines / radio /TV show.

Each of them against drugs and against long stubborn FDA / clinical.trail.gov research.

And basically they advertise themselves, although they have not invented anything new.

Evidence-based medicine is the central component of the stated higher-order and in US there are lots of finansial foundations to do research. Somehow the amount of foundations for research in US are the best the world.

And still all research that done is not as

many as required/fairly acceptable/not enough defined and other NO.

In UK, Germany, France and Israel alternative medicine is covered by inshurance, specialy in chronic and preventative care. Some how the data is obtaned there and patients have a choice how to be treated.

dont choose a specialty due to demand. choose one that you love! specialty demand will change from time to time and from location to location. i think overall, psych is currently ruling in demand. and it's also one of the higher paying specialties.

unless you're talking about Family vs Acute. which is a wholeeeee other story.
