Hi everyone,
I really would appreciate if anyone out there knows what hospitals are hiring at this moment in Richmond. I am a new grad who has been looking out for job since January. I have heard from a nursing manager that MCV was on hiring freeze but what about the other hospitals such as bonsecours, etc. Does anyone work in a hosptial in Richmond who might have heard anything. I see several openings in their website which i filled out mostly the new graduate positions, but no luck yet. Should i apply for the specific floors as well? Do any of you have any ideas?? i am really confused of where to look. I called almost all the places i applied, and they do not say one way or another, or that they may be in a hiring freeze, but what i get from them is that they are still in the decsion process:rolleyes: Help.....what's the deal?

Right now Bon Secours is hiring and so is the VA. It's not in Richmond, but Southside Regional is hiring also. From what I understand, hospitals do new hiring in cycles because of when they plan their orientations.
I also found that applying online is the way to go. When I tried calling during my hiring search they just told me to go online and apply. I got 2 job offers that way.

i just posted/ranted about this similiar topic regarding hiring nurses in central VA ..
the only hospitals i see that are ACTIVELY hiring right now are the V.A., bon secours and SRMC.
i have been told by a nurse that works at MCV, that they received notice that MCV will be cutting 300 jobs! and are on a hiring freeze. every time i look at the job listing for MCV, the list gets shorter and shorter. it doesn't look good.
bon secours and SRMC seem to have the most LPN job offerings and CJW rarely has an LPN job up for grabs, though RN vacancies seem to be heavy.
the only jobs i see that are being offered in the paper are for LTC/assisted living and a few private practices.
very slim pickins!

VCU health systems has a joblisting for new grads posted on their website, after you apply for that then you have to apply for other jobs they have listed that you may qualify for. Best of luck

If you know anyone already working somewhere or did clinicals somewhere that might be your best route to check out. My first job wasn't actually advertised. Call hour at the places you applied and just tell them you are following up on an application you submitted. Its ok to ask if they are in a hiring feeze, andthen you could keep your focus on the ones who are not. Unfortunately as a new grad you are going to have to be very flexible as far as unit and hours in this market. HCA is the biggest money maker in this market, bon Secours has very few needs right now, the VA has a few openings and I know is not in a hiring freeze, VCU did lay off some people but from what I heard it was nurse clinicians and other middle mgt nurses, unfortunately those nurses are probably looking for jobs at the bedside now. I wish you luck. Keep your head up and say a prayer. Things are bound to pick up eventually, right?
CCNur06 Thanks a lot for your advice. It funny that you told what i just did and very thankful for. I knew a nurse who i called and mentioned to her about my situation, she contacted her manager and the recruiter called me the next day and i interviewed a few days later for a position which was not advertised. To my surprise i really liked the unit, the manager, and their benefit is amazing. And its with HCA (CJW medical center), i got the offer a few days later as u mentioned they are the better ones in this market. So i am really excited to start my nursing career soon in a hospital that i feel comfortable in (so far :) My orientaton begins April 20th. Best of luck to all of you out there who is still looking!!
