Which is which! Apply as R.N or RPN?

Published

Hi guys! I'm a new landed immigrant and I'm a Registered Nurse way back in the Philippines. I just wanna ask if which is much better step to take to apply in CNO, as an R.N or R.P.N? I'm still having doubts if I am confident enough to take the RN exam.Thank you so much!

i would start at rn, then rpn..........then school. just seems to make for sense to me. i don’t know much about your education or where in the country you are. but in canada you need a bsn or bscn. from what i have read many do not have their education accepted for rn licensing in canada

Well, your education and experience has to be assessed for starters. From what we've seen over the last five years is NOT all BScNs granted from the Phillipines are equal.

My health authority did a mass hire from there. Many who were granted RN status failed the CRNE x3 and then failed the CPNRE x3 (the authority worked a deal with the local regulating bodies to try and recoup their investment).

Problems arose when the nurses were found to have very limited skill sets and in many cases just couldn't relate to nursing in Canada despite being given "introductory courses" upon arrival at local colleges.

Start the process and find out what CNO wants to do with you.

The PN designation isn't meant to be a consolation prize for those who fail to be granted permits for RN.
