Which ADN program prepares the best students?

U.S.A. Kentucky

I am currently taking prerequisites for ADN. I have a BA English from the University of Louisville and only need A&PII and Micro/lab. I was planning on applying to JCC in Louisville (I actually live 45 miles north), with tentative plans to finish a BSN at UofL later, but I've read some rather unpleasant posts regarding JCC. I certainly prefer the tuition rates at JCC, but would be willing to pay a bit more at another school as long as the benefits are tangible. I'd like to hear from graduates of different programs (UofL, Bellarmine, Spalding, Galen) and also those who supervise new graduates. Thanks in advance for any input you can offer. :wink2:

thanks. I can't wait to start I'm getting anxious!

Well, 30 and 49 is definitely not too old. In my LPN class we graduated with a lady who was in her 60's!!! Depending on where you got you BA, they will probably accept your credits. A lot of my classmates went to UL, UK, Ivy Tech, IUS, etc and most of their credits transferred. Once you are an RN, they will take all your nursing classes, and again depending on where you took your pre-reqs, they may take those too. The only things that may not transfer are your sciences. Usually it's because they make more money out of you this way. But your core nursing classes are good. You won't have to worry about those. I am starting my BSN program right away (end of Oct) and they are taking all my credits from Galen b/c they have some kind of contract with them. It's through Grand Canyon University, but it's online. I think Indiana Wesleyan takes most if not all of Galen's credits too.

Gardiner... I am not sure if they transfer to UofL but someone on here has told me Galen has teamed of with Indiana Wesleyen if you want to continue your education. I think since galen is not a state school like UofL they compete with eachother and may not take galen credits.

You've been really helpful. My gen ed credits are from UofL, but my a/p I and II are from JCC. I wouldn't want to have to retake those however!

galen will take those credits but I think the sciences can't be over 5yrs. I went to jcc before deciding I hated it and all my gen eds transferred. I'm going to retale ap though since I don't remember anything.

They tell you your sciences can't be over 5 years, but my A/P were almost 10 years old. I wrote a letter included with my RN application that I had already taken A/P in college as well as A/P with the LPN program. They accepted the credits.

A couple things I want to make sure you know is that you have to apply for the LPN and RN programs separately. They usually give Galen grads preferrence to get into RN program, but you still need pretty decent grades. 3.0 and up is a pretty good bet you'll get in. The other thing is that while the LPN program is REALLY good, the RN program is new and still working out some kinks. PAY ATTENTION in the LPN program. You will need all this information to make it through the RN program. Otherwise, it is a good place to go. I think it should just be a continuous 2 year program with the option to get your LPN after a year, but hey, I just go there.

How soon do you have to apply for the RN program? I kind of figured that remembering everything from the lpn program for year two was how it worked lol.

You can't apply to the RN program until the end of your 3rd quarter in the LPN program. You should find out if you've bee accepted in the beginning of the 4th quarter.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like a smart a** there. I meant that honestly. I forget that some people don't do the LPN program there and such.

No problem, I didn't think you were trying to be a smart a$$. I think I misunderstood the question. Are you just starting the LPN program or are you going straight into the RN program? Did I answer your question? You may have to ask it again. Sorry!

Ok, just checking. I am starting with the LPN program.

Where on earth can I find the latest nclex pass rates? I have searched kbn's website and can't find them anywhere.
