Wheres the best place to live in NC

U.S.A. North Carolina

I am RN with 15 years exp in many varied fields of nursing(thanks to the Navy)We want to move out of Florida and away from immediate threat of hurricanes. My dh retires from the navy in May 2006 and we are looking to go north. I want a milder summer, and cooler weather. My recent experience is in L&D and Day surgery. We are also looking to get out of the social rat race of the "burbs" and start over. Any recommendations?:)

What's great about NC is that they have many types of terrain/areas to chose from.. Do you want to stay by the beach? There are a lot of islands and beach cities..They also have the mountains with a good amount of snow, etc. Charlotte is considered the 'big city' by most and there are many areas in between.. If you are looking to get out of the suburbs, eastern and the mountain area of NC are pretty rural...

i just went to check out Asheville last month and i am DEFINITELY moving there just as soon as i finish school.

absolutely fabulous!

go see for yourself! i promise you wont regret it!

Historic Edenton is a beautiful little town with a surprisingly modest cost of living. Plenty of RN jobs available and not far from the beach:

Ocracoke island is one of the last unspoiled coastal regions in NC. Only accessible via ferry. Cost of living is high, due to being on the beach:

Unfortunately, both areas can be in the line of hurricanes (Eastern NC is 2nd only to Florida in hurricane frequency, because we "jut out.") We've had a relatively quiet past 2 years.
