Hello fellow RNs,
I will be moving to the Northern VA area in a few months (my husband is being relocated to Quantico). We will most likely live in the Stafford area but I'm not sure yet. Anyway, I have been an L&D nurse for 4 years and I was wondering if anyone could give me any info on the hospitals in the area. Are there any maternity units to definitely stay away from?? Or any that are just awesome and that I need to check into? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!!

I'm not an L&D nurse, but I've been stationed at Quantico and am currently in NoVA (husband is stationed at the Pentagon), and traffic plays a big role in life around here. If you are going to be in Stafford, I would look at Stafford Hospital, Mary Washington (Fredericksburg) and maybe Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge. I have spoken to several people who have delivered at both Stafford and MW and really, really liked the hospitals (I know that's from the pt's perspective, not the nurses, though).

I work at Potomac's women & children's unit, I can at least tell you that they are hiring for l&d, and the commute wouldn't be bad for you. As far as are we awesome, no, we have problems like most places I suspect. I work with some great people and some I wouldn't choose to if I had the choice! But overall I like it. We are a small community hospital.

Potomac is great if you're a hard worker, don't dump your work off on others, and like to be part of a good team of nurses. If that's not you, don't add to the problems.

Spotsylvania Regional Hospital and Mary Washington are desperately looking for L&D nurses. Mary Washington even has several PRN Plus positions for experienced L&D nurses that pays $40 + Diff...Check out their site...Good Luck..:)
