Where are all you SC nurses?

You never here much from nurses in SC. Are there not that many on this board or have I just missed you all?

It would be nice to hear about experiences here in SC.

Perhaps we should introduce ourselves.

I am a student in Charleston, just moved here with my family to attend nursing school. We plan on staying here after I graduate instead of moving back to Myrtle Beach.

Cay, there are several ADN throughout the state...to what part are you looking to relocate?

I am in Columbia, and here there is Midlands Technical College (http://www.midlandstech.edu). There is Florence Darlington Tech right outside of Florence, Central Carolina, Orangeburg Tech, etc.

Try http://www.allnursingschools.com and look those up, as I don't know the addy's for those right off hand. MTC has a really good program!

Edited to add...here is the exact link for all SC

nursing schools

I am in the Myrtle Beach area, work in Georgetown, thinking of doing some travel nursing. I love Charleston, and go there at least once a month. I love the historical aspect of Charleston. MB is all about shopping, golfing, and eating. You pretty much run out of things to do here, but Charleston it seems there is always something to do. :roll

Specializes in Postpartum, Antepartum, Psych., SDS, OR.

I would relocate to the area that accepts me in an ADN program and maybe work per-diem as a surgical tech. Thanks for the information. Cay

In Charleston we have an ADN program at Trident Technical College http://www.ttc.edu. There are many hospitals here, so getting a job at a hospital while going to school should be pretty easy.

I just started the BSN progam downtown at MUSC and I don't dare work-too scared I'll fall behind!

Good luck!

Hey all you SC nurses!

I live in MD-- born and raised here.. but hubby's family have all relocated to Charleston area-- N Charleston, Summerville. Mt Pleasant...

My sister is over in Augusta, GA...

So we are looking at relocating to SC or GA... nearer the ocean is preferable.

I have been offered jobs several times in the Charleston area but would really like to live down by Beaufort/Savannah...

Not sure what "good" salary in SC is... please help--

I am a home health nurse w/peds experience ( terminally ill mostly but chronically ill too), MD ofc experience, LTC & even hosp and billing and insurance liason too...

Thanks for any help or advice ...

Hi, I'm taking pre-reqs in florence right now and from what I've seen they have a really good ADN program ( just built a new campus for nursing) with little or no waiting list. Although I'd like to move to Charleston for school, I'll probablly finish my associates here, move to Charleston to get some experience and possiblly get my BSN. Charleston is a great city, I'd love to move there and buy a sailboat to live on. Good luck to you all.

I am very excited to see so many excited new nurses.

Good Luck in School and remember Nursing is wide open.

You can go anywhere and do anything with the right experience.

JimD,

I am in my first semester (in Charleston) and I'm becoming interested in Peds. I'm hoping that next semester I can get a job as an extern. Any advice? What is a nurse manager looking for? I'm willing to work 3rd shift, I've worked with children before (but not in a medical capacity) and at the end of this semester I will have completed Fundamentals. What kinds of things make an applicant stand out?

:) RedVaz,

Nurse managers are looking for positive attitudes, smiling faces, and people eager to learn. At our hospital the requirements to apply and work as a Student Nurse Tech are that you have completed Fundamentals. Flexibility is always an assett. Good luck!!! I am always willing to hire SNT's because most SNTs turn into great Nurses.

Are you at Florence-Darlington Tech? I'm looking into their program because I'm looking to change schools (long story). :uhoh3:

Hi y'all - From Greenville here! Work in the Childrens' Hosp. in NICU. LOVE IT. Would never do any other kind of nursing - gotta be with my babes!!

Yea, I will not be starting any nursing classes untill fall 2004 or spring 2005 if I stay here. From everything I've heard it's a good program. Not much of a wait, semester or two once you get all you pre-reqs done. Lots of nice people. Where are you going now? Actually, if I can get accepted into trident tech in Charleston by fall 2005 I'd take a semester off and go ahead and move down there. That's been my goal from the beginning.

Hey RedVaz if you've got any info on ttc or just an opinion I'd appreciate some feedback. You know how long the wait is? Anybody else familular with it feel free to post. Good luck to all, Brandon
