I've been living in Texas since 2005. The major cities (Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Austin) are badly glutted with too many nurses, although you should be able to find employment if you are not too picky about what type of nursing you do.So far I have a friend who is a cnp and she lives in Texas. She says LVNs are in high demand there. I am interested but I want to examine all possible options before making such a serious decision.
The opportunities are in the small towns and rural areas located 100+ miles from a major city: Abilene, Tyler, Marshall, Longview, Waco, San Angelo, Eagle Pass, Midland, Odessa, etc.
Don't forget to check out cost of living in the areas you're looking at. I live in a suburb of Austin and the rents here are outrageous. Average (by my estimate) rent for a modest 3 bed/2 ba house is around $1200/month. Food, gas, utilities and all that are about average. Plenty of LVN jobs posted, though. All told, I love it here in spite of my rent. And the weather isn't bad, either. Hot in the summer of course, but only a handful of really cold days in the winter.

I am an LPN living in Ohio and over the last 3 years the pay rate has dropped as well as available job opportunities. I am so ready to move (also the weather is terrible!). Any suggestions for a family of 8 seeking better weather and a better job opportunity????
