Where are the jobs for new grads lpn?

Published

HELLO EVERYONE:

Your input is greatly needed...

It's been now 5 months since I have been looking for a job. I tried LTC, CLINICS, FLU CLINICS, HOSPITAL, COMMUNITY HEALTH CARE, MENTAL HEALTH... the result is nada, ni, none. I've tried it all: THEY ALL SAY: WE ARE NOT HIRING NEW GRAD. Even finding a CNA job now is hard.. maybe they require an MSN to work as a CNA. Also, they all ask me if I know somebody that works for the company. It's like if you don't know anyone that work there, you don't belong there.

I know some say try volunteer work... yes I believe in it too but who's going to pay for gas to get there or even for my bus pass.

I ONLY WISHED THAT INSTEAD OF WASTING MY TIME WHILE I WAS IN NURSING SCHOOL TELLING ME ABOUT GETTING MY BELOVED INSTRUCTORS HAD INSTEAD SPOKEN ABOUT HOW TOUGH IT IS TO GET THE FIRST JOB ONCE YOU HAVE YOU NURSING LICENSE.

One place I went had me filled all the papers, spoke to some kind of supervisor just to tell me at the end when she saw that I only had clinical experience " I AM SO SORRY, I SHOULD HAVE ASKED YOU THAT AT FIRST... WE DON'T HAVE A NEW GRAD PROGRAM."

NOW I DON'T THINK I REALLY CARE ABOUT BEING A NURSE IF IT'S ONLY TO LOOK AT THAT LITTLE BLUE CARD.

Specializes in Sub-Acute/Psychiatric/Detox.

A couple of months late. But what annoys me is crappy HR at any job.

One person says a job is full-time, another person says its only part-time. The director says its full-time.

Any luck finding a job yet fishtanknurse?

Hi Selene006. Thanks for inquiring.

I am still looking. I did accept a job with a pharmaceutical company (it helps a lot with the meds, Dr's orders...) but i am affraid I might become a little rusty for not practicing my routine assessments, patient reports.. things like that... :)

It's wonderful that you're employed, even if you're not doing exactly what you want to do. As far as assessment skills and routines go--those are learned skills and you can reawaken them when you have to. I'm hopeful that you will find something more gratifying soon.:) In the mean time, it must be nice to able to pay your bills and financially stabilize yourself.

Yes indeed. It feels better to know that you can expect a paycheck after all these long months looking... the best of it though is the work experience.

HAPPY FRIDAY:yeah:

i dont know what area in ma you live in, but i just moved from the southcoast (new bedford area) and at this time of year they're always hiring new grads in ltc around there. i now live in amherst/springfield area, and my ltc in east longmeadow is hiring new grads. the specific company i work for is berkshire healthcare, and they have facilities all over the state. they hire new grads and have a great preceptor program. if you want more information, let me know.
