Where should I live? (Duke)

Published

Hi all!

I'm super excited to say I've accepted a position at Duke University Hospital on a neuro unit. I'm graduating in May and planning to move in late June with a lease starting July 1st. I want to live in Durham. Some people have told me that Durham isn't the nicest place but I'm from the Chicago area so I'm not really phased. I was wondering if anyone knew of apartment complexes around Duke that are relatively inexpensive yet nice. Also if there are any othere new grads/nurses at Duke looking for a roommate- let me know 😊

Hey Egesse!

A lot of people say Durham isn't nice. I have no idea what they're talking about, to be honest. I am from the Philadelphia area originally, and spent 4 years in West Philadelphia. Durham is no where near what I would consider bad. I will say that I am quite fond of the South/Southwest area of Durham myself. I currently live in that part of Durham, and while I hate my current complex (and I'm hoping to move July/August) the area is awesome!

My best advice would be to use one of the many apartment search websites and put in your criteria, then look up their resident reviews on a website like apartmentratings.com.

I will be starting at DUH this summer as well :)

Thank you so much! I remember you commenting on my other thread about being stressed out and trying to relocate to NC. I'm super glad it all worked out. :)If you don't mind me asking, do you know your living plans for July/August?

I don't know my living plans yet after July. My lease expires July 31, so I will probably start looking next month to find a new place for July/August since I think I need to put my 60 day notice in by the beginning of June.
