Where can I find ATL Nurse Extern Programs?

Does anyone know where to find a good nurse extern program? I live about 30 minutes from Atlanta. I've looked at Piedmont Fayette/Newnan, Grady, and Emory. But no where seems to be hiring any. I really want to get some critical care experience so I can hopefully get hired in an ICU when I graduate next year. Any suggestions?

I think Children's healthcare is still accepting applications, medical center central georgia is also hiring externs (1 hour south of Atlanta), you just missed Grady's extern program I think they start again in the summer.

Ok thanks! I'll definitely look into it.

I was just hired as a nurse extern at Piedmont Fayette in critical care. It is hit and miss with the nurse extern positions. I've applied as a PCT for the last 9 months there. They called me in for the PCT interview, but then mentioned that I could be hired as an extern.

HR said that because they pay externs more, they have to wait for financial approval to hire them as externs.

I suggest applying for PCT positions and when you get an interview ask for information about making it an extern experience.

Good luck.

Wow really? That's exactly what I want to do at Piedmont Fayette. I'm hoping to do my praticum there but I want to get a job there before that point. I've been applying for quite some time too. I was hired back in august but their orientation times interfere with clinicals. I was hoping I could get hired again during the break but that didn't happen  i guess i must keep on trying.

Try Northeast Ga Health system or Gwinnett medical center.

hello

what is a extern program, and PCT?

Thanks

An extern is basically a paid intern. Pct = patient care tech

so basically you work while in school, and get paid, but if you dont have a degree would they hire you.

You don't have to have a degree to get hired but you have to be in nursing school as far ad I know. Most externships require students to have at least one clincal rotation in med/surg.

I'm interested in applying to a nurse extern position at mccg and I've done med surg 1 but I will be entering med surg 2 this coming fall. In the requirements section for the job they say you have to have completed medical surgical rotation. Does that mean both parts of med surg or as long as I've done one I would be fine to apply?

Gosh I hope it's just the first one because I've been wanting to apply at this hospital for awhile and FINALLY they have the positions open :/
