So frustrated with IV starts!!
Be careful about sliding the catheter up and putting it back as this can potentially shear off a small bit of the catheter and introduce it into the vein - we've been taught to twist the cather at the base to release the seal.

Where can I find ATL Nurse Extern Programs?
I was just hired as a nurse extern at Piedmont Fayette in critical care. It is hit and miss with the nurse extern positions. I've applied as a PCT for the last 9 months there. They called me in for the PCT interview, but then mentioned that I could be hired as an extern. HR said that because they pay externs more, they have to wait for financial approval to hire them as externs. I suggest applying for PCT positions and when you get an interview ask for information about making it an extern experience. Good luck.

Non-nursing question about Floyd County
Do you feel like Redmond is very supportive when it comes to continuing education? I'll be a new BSN RN and would like to be somewhere where they encourage us getting certification in certain areas. Also, I'll probably being working nights - a better schedule for my children. Do you work nights? or have you?

Non-nursing question about Floyd County
Thanks so much for the great information. We were in Rome last weekend checking things out. We saw Rome Middle/High and the Armuchee schools. We looked through a few Armuchee neighborhoods: Battle Farm and Northwoods. I'll certainly keep the information in mind. I had read that West End was the best elementary school in Rome City Schools. We figure we will tell our RE agent we want either West End district or Armuchee. Thanks again.

Considering moving to Georgia
You might want to try some areas around Peachtree City. The tough thing about Peachtree City is the drive up Hwy. 74 to get to I-85. I live in the town of Sharpsburg in Coweta county. I'm right on the Fayette county (where Peachtree City is) line and Coweta county line. Someone in my neighborhood works for CHOA. I have also driven there a couple of times and the drive is not terrible. There are some new neighborhoods coming up. You might want to try out Persimmon Creek South. It is in an excellent school district, easy access to I-85 and across the street from a golf course. The neighborhood starts in the $300s. Good luck - and welcome to Georgia!

Non-nursing question about Floyd County
What about the middle school. It was given only 6 out of 10 starts on great schools dot com. I know middle schools typically struggle - but that is something I was concerned about. I looked at the elementary schools on great schools for Rome City. Some are low like 4 out of 10 and others I believe were 8 or 9 out of 10. Thanks for all the insight!

Non-nursing question about Floyd County
On the SAT - I believe they added a writing section since you took the SAT (and since I took it back in 1988). So that adds more points. It used to be 800 for Math and 800 for English and that was it.

Non-nursing question about Floyd County
Great information. Thanks. My seven year old has a learning disability as well. He attends a private school in Fulton county just for kids with learning disabilities (we receive SB10 funds). I'm not really sure what to do for him when we move, I had planned on a smaller christian school, but it is good to know that Rome City cares for its special needs students.

Non-nursing question about Floyd County
Thanks so much! I don't know anything about the Rome area. My husband will be working at Shorter and I hope to get a job at Floyd Medical. I figured living in Rome would be the best bet for both of us to have a really short commute. I don't really know anything about the surrounding cities or their school systems.

Non-nursing question about Floyd County
There is a strong possiblity that my family will relocate to Rome in the next two years. I am trying to research schools as I have 3 boys (10,7,3). If you live in Floyd - what is your opinion of Rome City schools vs. Floyd county schools? I see where the Armuchee district looks good, but I just wondered about the city schools. Thanks!
