Where would an Air Force or Navy Neonatal NP end up?

Published

Specializes in Neonatal ICU (Cardiothoracic).

I'm curious, since I'll be graduating next year with my MSN/NNP, and considered trying out the AF or Navy. I haven't gotten very far with a nursing recruiter. (Apparently they don't deal with NNPs that often)

Where would an NNP get stationed? My first thought would be someplace like Landstuhl or Bethesda.....Someplace that has a Children's hospital, or at least does transports to one....

Also, are there any opportunities for civilian NNPs to work for the AF or Navy under contract?

Thanks for any info you can offer.

Specializes in Staff nurse.

Does the Army have a place for you? There's Tripler in Hawaii, and they cover the Pacific.

Actually my perception with the Air Force and the recruiters is they really are not used to any kind of NP...

But the NP I was put in tough with was Neonatal with 20 years of service...

Specializes in Anesthesia.

I don't think that the AF utilizes any NNP, at least not in a true NNP role. My guess if you were AD in the AF they would have you be the staff educator for a NICU somewhere.

The two types of NPs that I know that the AF utilizes are WHNP, FNP, and PNP.

Oops sorry she is A PNP.....:imbar

I went to the Air Force site and they mention neonatal nurses so one might presume the use of NNPs...
